Emma Ulrich, B.S.

Lab alumna and Data analysis technician

I graduated from the University of Minnesota with my bachelor’s degree in
Anthropology and Computer Science in May 2023. I am currently working
with the Anthropological Genetics Lab as a bioinformatics researcher,
applying clustering and dimensionality reduction techniques to study genetic
diversity and ancestry in modern Caribbean populations. I have a wide
variety of research interests that sit at the intersection of biological
anthropology and computer science, including population structure of
ancient and modern populations and the development and use of analytical
algorithms suitable for populations with complex and diverse genetic
histories. I am also interested in the ethical questions surrounding genetic
analyses of marginalized or underrepresented populations, especially as this
concerns discussions of race and identity and the potential misuse and and misrepresentation of genetic data.
