Annie Stene, B.S.

Volunteer Researcher

Annie graduated from St. Catherine University with a degree in Biology where she developed an interest in paleogenomics and population genetics.  In particular, she is interested in human migration, archaic-modern human admixture, and reconstructing the evolution and genetic history of present-day humans.  In the Nieves-Colón lab, she is helping Jaime and Laura with their work on La Quebrada Archaeology Project.  When not in the Nieves-Colón lab Annie can be found in the Gill lab at the University of Minnesota.  There she is working on identifying a mutation associated with the upregulation of DAF-2B, an alternatively spliced isoform of the C. elegans insulin receptor known to influence dauer formation and whose overexpression extends lifespan.  Outside of the lab, Annie enjoys live music, playing the board game ‘Codenames,’ and gardening.
